Jalan Jalan Hamo-ri

Hamo-ri is where my home in Jeju is located. My house is under construction.

Jalan jalan means walking around neighbours. It’s one of my favourite Malay words.

Olle route 11 along the rocky beach

Jeju Olle route 11 is crossing the town along the beach.

Sanimul

Sanimul is a fresh water spring at the beach. It was a public bath in old days. These days, old ladies wash some clothes during high tide. Sometimes, I see Haenyeo(female divers) catching seafood in near sea when I sit by Sanimul.

radish field

Radishes grow during winter in Jeju. Often I see neighbours pluck radishes and garlic in Spring.

Canola

Canola flowers are everywhere in Jeju during Spring season but I never get tired of seeing them on my walk.

Old house near Saturday Market Entrance

This old house was almost a ruin last time and it has been renovated last year bit by bit. I never saw the owner but I can really see how much effort he/she made to the house.

Would you like to jalan jalan this lovely town?

Myeongwol Pangnamu(Nettle Tree) Colony and Myeongwol fortress

Myeongwol Pangnamu(Nettle Tree)

Instead of a busy schedule visiting several tourist attractions in a day, I much enjoy slowing down a bit and visit local towns. Taking a walk in a small village and see how people live can be more interesting. Myeongwol is a peaceful town where visitors would definitely enjoy walking around and enjoy the atmosphere. I visited in a grey winter day. I was the only person walking around except the locals there. Some newly built cozy houses with the old beautiful nettle trees along the small valley made unique view of the town.

1.5Km north from the town is Myeongwol fortress. On the top of the wall, beautiful scenery and the wind will welcome you.

Flowers and flowers – Lupin in May, Hydrangea in June

20160507_145521

Sanghyowon celebrates Lupin festival in May and Hydrangea festival in Jun. This beautiful park holds fewer package tourists so you can enjoy beautiful scenery and space. There are so many photo spots. Take time and take nice photos of your own with flowers.

Camellia Hill has many couple tourists. If you are travelling alone, you will be a little annoyed by many couples posing for good shots in front of flowers forever. Don’t worry there are so many photo spots. There will always be a nice spot for you. Camellia flowers are the main attraction in Camelia hill but hydrangea are awesome in Jun.

Enjoy Winter in Jeju – Saebyeol Oreum

Saebyeol Oreum

Saebyeol Oreum

Silver grasses at Ecoland was beautiful and made me to shoot a lot of photos. Silver grasses in Sangumburi was awesome and I felt like lying down and look at the sky. These are all come with a bit of entrance fees.

Silver grasses at Saebyeol Oreum (volcanic cone) comes free of charge and yet the most breathtaking. From the entrance, take the left hand side path which is quite stiff. You might want to give up every 10 steps if you are not fit enough. Then you look down the scenery and that gives you more energy to climb up. Once you are at the top the wind will almost blow you off.  Coming down from the other end is a lot easier but I still suggest you to experience both paths.

Just like other hidden(?) places, this is well known to Koreans but not to foreign tourists. You can only reach there by cars or taxis. It is about 25 min driving from Yongmeori Coast(Dragon Head Coast) or 30 min driving from Hyeopjae beach.

Accommodation in Wimi -Soyo 逍遙 & BeLazy

Wimi became a popular town after the big hit of the movie Architecture 101 in 2012. Seo-Yeon(presented by Han Ga-In)’s Jeju home in Wimi was transformed as a café and now became many movie fan’s must-visit spot.

Wimi is known for the warmest temperature in Jeju throughout the year and its tangerines are very good. Still, Wimi keeps its character as a small Jeju town despite of the fame and many constructions in the area.

Wimi has a few nice places to stay and I chose 2 places for my visit last Autumn.

Soyo is a newly opened B&B with 4 bed rooms. The breakfast was so good and the host was really friendly. My sister and I ended up chatting with them until midnight.  Soyo means a leisurely stroll.

I would highly recommend this place to many friends. If you are an animal lover, two lovely dogs will welcome you. Spend a day playing with Hojung and Hodu.

BeLazy is only about 5-7 minute walking distance from Soyo. It is so near form the beach but you cannot view the water from the room because of the tangerine trees. It is just 2 min walk to the beach so you don’t really need the view.

BeLazy’s host couple is also very friendly and have really good sense of humor. It was so interesting to hear how they decided to migrate to Jeju and how their lives became. The room is a bit small but clean and cozy. It would be nice to sit at the café and spend a day. Be lazy at BeLazy!
